GCCI BULLETIN JULY 2019
27TH AUGUST 2019
It gives me immense pleasure to pen down my thoughts for the first time after taking over as the President of GCCI. I am extremely thankful to every one of you for reposing faith in me to lead this apex industry body in Goa, for the next two years. I assure you that with the support of my Managing Committee I shall try my best to live up to your expectations.
We have several sector-specific committees in GCCI which help the Managing Committees in running the affairs of the Chamber. Keeping in tune with the changing market and business scenario, there has been a change in the structure and formation of these committees which were finalized in the first Managing Committee meeting. Some old committees are disbanded, some merged, and a few new ones formed. Another major change from the past is that all these committees will be chaired by individuals from outside the Managing Committee. However, there will be a Managing Committee member who will be the Mentor for each of these committees. I have already had a meeting with all the committee chairpersons and discussed the way forward to maintain the vibrancy of GCCI and also work as a true catalyst between the trade & Industry and the Government bodies.
I am pleased to inform you that we have started on a very positive note as regards interaction with different departments of the government. Industries Minister has formed a core committee to take up issues of various industrial estates and work out a fast solution. This committee is headed by Secretary Industries and GCCI is represented by President and Mr. Joseph D’Souza therein.
I am also pleased to inform you that the Government has given two representations to GCCI by nominating President and Mr. Ralph Dsouza on the newly reconstituted Goa Investment Promotion and Facilitation Board (GIPB).
In the coming months, there will be a lot of small and big initiatives taken by GCCI about which we shall keep informing our members regularly. Looking forward to very active participation from all our members in our initiatives.
I am also working towards redesigning the GCCI bulletin with added features and various articles by experts from different sectors. In case any members would like to contribute and /or offer suggestions, you are most welcome to contact the Chamber Secretariat.
As you must be aware, the Vibrant Goa Expo is being organized in Goa in October this year and GCCI has extended full support to the same. I firmly believe that this Expo with the participation of delegates from across the world will hugely benefit Goan trade and industry. This expo is not only to facilitate investments into Goa but moreover to give exposure to Goa MSME to the markets around the world. I urge our members to register for this event to showcase their products to the world and in turn expose themselves to a high probability of incremental and new business.
The Goa government under the leadership of the Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has taken a very strong stance regarding the App-based Taxi Issue. At GCCI we strongly applaud this stand and have promised to back the government on behalf of the trade and industry in the interest of Goan tourism. The Chief Minister has also taken various industry bodies into confidence and sought our support to resolve this long pending taxi issue.
The Chief Minister has shown a very positive approach in solving the issues of the industry and we look forward to working with the government towards this cause.
To conclude, I request you to write to me on any /every issue so that we can interact regularly to take our mutual interests forward to make Goa an ideal place to do business in.
Best Regards
Manoj M. Caculo
