GCCI BULLETIN APRIL 2021
31ST MAY 2021
Dear Members,
As we embark on a new Financial Year 2021/22, there was an expectation and belief that the worst is probably behind us on the social as well as economic fronts. And from now on we will be looking at a revival of the economy across sectors. But unfortunately, fate had other ideas and we have instead embarked on a more vicious, more aggressive, and more lethal second wave of Covid 19.
The rampant spread of the now mutated virus is creating havoc in the country and Goa is no exception. Needless to say, some insane and vulgar decisions of the Government are partly responsible for this. Be it holding elections or having political rallies or organizing religious congregations. All these and more, are responsible for the spread primarily. Not to mention the careless attitude of some of our countrymen not following the set protocols and putting others at risk.
And in the bargain who suffers?? The Economy, of course. And that’s exactly what has started. Besides putting tremendous pressure on our health care system this second wave will dent our Economy and businesses BIG TIME.
Given the spread of infections in Goa, a lot of meetings and events were canceled. Our sub-committees too could not transact normal meetings. Overall April has been pretty uneventful on the work front.
We hosted a delegation from the Indonesian Trade Promotion Centre led by Mr. Kumara Jati, Director, and discussed options for bilateral business opportunities between Goa and Indonesia.
We also had a follow-up meeting with the newly elected Mayor of Panaji to reiterate our demand for relief in various charges by CCP. We look forward to a positive decision in this regard.
It is with a heavy heart that I wish to inform our members that Mr. R. S. Kamat decided to opt-out of GCCI to spend more time with his family and lead a retired life. Mr. Kamat has been the backbone of the GCCI Secretariat for the last 17 years. Starting as Director and subsequently donning the role as Director-General. His contribution to the GCCI secretariat and our members has been tremendous. Soft-spoken, humble, approachable, go-to man, immaculate drafting skills, analytical capabilities, master planner of events are some of the words which go with him. I am sure all of us miss him immensely. We wish him all the happiness and a very healthy life.
I would like to welcome our new Director General Mr. Kishore Shah who comes with a tremendous amount of experience in corporate as well as consultancy fields. I am sure he will add value to GCCI’s functioning in the days to come. Let’s wish him all the best.
An earnest request to all, please stay safe and follow all the protocols. Let’s together break this chain and emerge victoriously.
Best Regards
Manoj M. Caculo
