GCCI BULLETIN JULY 2021

30TH AUGUST 2021

Dear Members,

The Chamber is witnessing new dawn and with this, with great pride and a sense of commitment, I take over as the President of GCCI for the term 2021-23 from my efficient predecessor Mr. Manoj Caculo. I step into the shoes of my eminent predecessors, under whom I worked as a member of the Managing Committee and as an Honorary Secretary for two decades. May God help me as I tread the path paved by these pioneers of the Goan economy.

There were some significant developments in the first month itself where the Chamber took up the issues of the proposed increase in the lease rents of plots in the industrial estates as well as the ownership title issues faced by the factory owners from the Kundaim industrial estate. A task force consisting of eminent industrialists is formed by the Chamber to come up with quick solutions to these two nagging problems. In toe surfaced the threat to discontinue the container services at the Marmagoa harbor. The feeder line service ferrying containers to Marmagoa made known its intent to discontinue its services. This would result in huge problems for factories in Goa that depend upon this service to transport their products via this route. This issue was well represented by the Logistics Committee of the Chamber and the matter is resolved, for the time being, thanks to the intervention of the Hon. Minister for State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Tourism, Mr. Shripad Naik.

New winds bring new energies and in the Chamber, we have a new Director-General Mr. Kishore Shah, and a new Director Mr. Sanjay Amonkar who has recently joined us. With the secretariat affairs handled by two new Directors and the affairs of the chamber handled by a new Managing Committee, there is fresh energy injected this month. Mr. Shrinivas Dempo and Ms. Pratima Dhond as Vice Presidents, Mr. Yatin Kakodkar as Hon. Secretary and Mr. Chandrakant Gawas as Hon. Treasurer supported by nineteen strong members of the Managing Committee, compliment the new team to handle the affairs of our Chamber.

The State of Goa also has a new Governor, His Excellency P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, as well as our own Hon. Minister for State Mr. Shripad Naik, who has been recently given the responsibilities of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Tourism. Both are towering personalities that will be of immense help to the industrial body in particular and the people of Goa at large. We welcome them and wish them the very best in their new roles entrusted to them.

The first month was concluded by the meeting of the Chairmen of the 15 Sub Committees of the Chamber, giving us their thumbnail sketch and their focus on the principle issues that they will address during this term. It was indeed a pleasure and elating to hear the stalwarts in their rights, making brief presentations to the Managing Committee. We wish them all the success in mitigating the problems of their respective sectors, as well as timing up with suggestions to steer the affairs of Goa in the right direction.
