GCCI BULLETIN MAY 2024

May 2024

With the Lok Sabha elections now over, we have a Government in the centre with a clear mandate for economic growth and social sector support. If the first two terms of Shri Narendra Modi ji’s Government are anything to go by, then we should expect major policy interventions and bold decision making to continue. The continuity in policy reforms and development agenda will lift millions out of poverty. As Industry, we hope that there are major reforms in land, labour, agriculture, simplified and lower compliance burden, ease of doing business, new push in sunrise sectors, free trade agreements, and more. In addition to having a PLI scheme, we need to focus on rural and women employment. GCCI will continue to engage with the Government for this, and I invite you to send your suggestions and specific feedback for the state and central government.

With Shri Shripad Naik a 6th time MP from Goa, and having the responsibility of being the Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, we can expect improvement of the power situation in Goa. I am hoping there will be accelerated implementation of power projects and increased investments in power and distribution. The government’s push for rooftop solar will have an impact on sustainable power – rates will drop, reliability will improve, tens of thousands of new jobs will be created. A small but significant activity in the recent past was the GCCI staff and committee members outing to a beach side resort. It was a day of fun and camaraderie. This team picnic will foster stronger relationships and was a wonderful opportunity to share experiences and build lasting connections that will enhance our collaborative efforts and industry growth.

While we talk to the Governments for simplifying and rationalising policies, we must also take some time to look within. All of us play crucial roles in driving our business growth and success. Our main task is to establish a clear vision and strategy that aligns with the company’s objectives, spotting opportunities for expansion, innovation, and market entry, and balancing short-term performance with long-term strategic planning. Effective future-fit leaders must inspire and motivate their teams, foster a culture of accountability and excellence, and build a strong executive team. We must navigate risks and seize new opportunities, nurture relationships with stakeholders, and steer our businesses toward its growth goals. We will have to be adaptable given the pace of global change in our respective industries, and navigate complex challenges. This can be achieved by continuous learning adaptability, emotional intelligence, embracing sustainability and digital transformation, and having a customer centric approach. Implementing all of these and more can only mean one thing – sustainable growth of your business.

Regards,

Shrinivas V Dempo
