GCCI BULLETIN FEBRUARY 2025

February 2025

In Goa, we often speak of preserving our natural beauty and cultural heritage. Yet we often overlook nurturing our people who are our greatest asset. Our future depends not just on infrastructure or tourism, but on the talent we develop, retain, and attract back to Goa. Goa must become a destination for careers, where skilled Goans see opportunity, growth and purpose in returning home. This requires a fundamental shift in how we view human resources, from basic hiring to strategic talent building. Industry, government, and academia must work together to align education with emerging sectors, ensuring Goans have the skills needed for tomorrow’s economy. Goa’s HR leaders must take the lead, designing career paths, attracting young talent, and fostering a good work culture. Workplaces must evolve into spaces where creativity thrives and people feel valued. A joyful, purposeful work environment rooted in local culture yet embracing global opportunity will inspire innovation, loyalty and growth. What worked fifty years ago won’t work with the next generation of job seekers. Goa’s future will be shaped by the hands and minds of empowered, inspired individuals who build their careers in Goa. Invest in people, and everything else will follow.

Global markets are no strangers to turbulence. The recent bloodbath across financial markets is yet another reminder that uncertainty is the only certainty. Yet, in the face of global shocks, India’s economy, health of companies, and India’s growth story stands tall. While international markets will continue their cycles of boom and bust, India is quietly building resilience rooted in domestic consumption, innovation, and a dynamic young workforce. Our industries are learning to adapt faster and tap into global opportunities while being anchored in a robust domestic economy. This gives us confidence in India’s resilient growth story.

South Korea’s HD Hyundai Heavy Industries visiting India for discussions with some coastal states is being keenly watched in the shipbuilding ecosystem. It is a company that commands nearly 10% of global shipbuilding trade, which is larger than India’s share of global shipbuilding. Hyundai’s presence could change that, creating a ripple effect across coastal states, including Goa. As global orders flow into India, Goa’s skilled shipbuilding ecosystem will benefit. Ancillary industries, from precision engineering to logistics, could see fresh demand, creating new jobs and attracting investment. But capital alone isn’t enough. To truly seize this moment, Goa must invest in advanced skilling, technology upgrades and strategic outsourcing partnerships. Goa can become a key node in India’s maritime supply chain, blending tradition with cutting-edge expertise. If we prepare today, Hyundai’s entry could start a new era for Goan shipyards.
