GCCI BULLETIN FEBRUARY 2020

12TH MAY 2020

Dear members,

February is the smallest calendar month of the year and it is reflected in the Economic & Industrial scenario in the country with practically nothing to talk about.

Post the budget presentation, although the expectations were lacking luster, it was still expected that there might be recovery treads for the economy. Many believed that the slowdown had bottomed out! But alas! Guess the revival signs are getting further postponed.

Unfortunately, social issues have topped the priorities list for the Central Govt. thus pushing economic revival on the backbench once again. The recent spate of anti CAA protests across various patches in the country is doing no good to investor sentiments be it domestic or international. And the violence in Delhi has put the final nail. With Govt. Machinery busy tackling these social issues, the economy always suffers and once again we are prey to these unwarranted developments.

And as though there were fewer troubles, the recent Corona Virus outbreak has all but put locks on economic revival. Starting from China, having spread almost all over the world is a huge setback for world trade & commerce. The shipments from China getting banned has put huge stress on manufacturing & retail segments across sectors all over the world. Let’s hope that a vaccine or cure is found immediately to control this menace failing which we should see huge demand and supply gaps across products, domestic or industrial thus affecting the price/ supply chain and might end up hurting consumers badly.

At GCCI, we have tried to be in touch with members via budget talks, seminars on tax developments, etc. And I am sure these would have helped our members as well as the public at large. Also, GCCI has been a very proactive stand at the JERC public hearing to ensure industry interests are not harmed on the electricity tariff front.

Recently Goa government has also affected several autocratic transfers directly related to trade and industry. We at GCCI look forward to working closely with the new Director of Industries and the new Commissioner of state GST.

This issue of the GCCI bulletin is dedicated to women on the occasion of the celebration of women’s day. We hope you all will like the same. We have presented herein various facets of women’s celebration in business & other fields in Goa. Do revert with your comments & Suggestion on this issue.

As I conclude, I would like to request all our members once again to keep us informed of any developments/achievements in your sector to publish in our bulletin, as I believe that sharing of information enriches the business sector in mutual interest.

Best Regards
Manoj M. Caculo
