One of the fastest-growing research areas in the world is Biotechnology as we know it. The basic idea behind biotechnology is using living things to create products rather than the other way around.
A task force on the application of agriculture biotechnology, constituted under the chairmanship of Swaminathan in 2004, has recommended to the Science and Technology Ministry to set up NBRA to regulate research, manufacture, import, and marketing of genetically modified organisms.
