At the outset, I would like to thank Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Hon. Finance Minister, Government of India for considering GCCI's pre-budget suggestions for the Union Budget 2024. These include relief for taxpayers by increasing the standard deduction for salaried class, abolishing of Angel Tax for providing relief to the startup sector, rationalising withholding tax provisions, raising the allowable limits of remuneration for working partners....
This section contains the Annual Report of GCCI. It covers the Managing Committee list, report of activities by different committees of GCCI, representation on Govt. bodies, audited accounts of GCCI.
As we embark on a new Financial Year 2021/22, there was an expectation and belief that the worst is probably behind us on the social as well as economic fronts. And from now on we will be looking at a revival of the economy across sectors. But unfortunately, fate had other ideas and we have instead embarked on a more vicious, more aggressive, and more lethal second wave of Covid 19.
As this financial year comes to an e n d, unfortunately, we are seeing an increased number of Covid 19 cases in the state of Goa as well as the whole country. Some states are contemplating a lockdown, partial or total. But honestly, I feel that lockdown is not the solution and if done it will only cripple the economy further. Hence an earnest appeal to all to please follow the SOPs prescribed to avoid further spread and get vaccinated immediately if you are eligible.
The month of February has been probably the most uneventful month of my entire tenure as President of GCCI so far. For most of the month, I have been ” out of circulation for health reasons and I am very much grateful to First Vice President Mr. Ralph De souse and GCCI secretariat under the leadership of R.S Kamat for holding the fort and ensuring the smooth functioning of the chamber during my absence.

As I write this communication, there is a sense of relief that 2020 has come to an end At last. A year which all of us would prefer to erase out of our memory for it has done, more damage than good to most.
