At the outset, I would like to thank Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Hon. Finance Minister, Government of India for considering GCCI's pre-budget suggestions for the Union Budget 2024. These include relief for taxpayers by increasing the standard deduction for salaried class, abolishing of Angel Tax for providing relief to the startup sector, rationalising withholding tax provisions, raising the allowable limits of remuneration for working partners....
As I write this communication, there is a sense of relief that 2020 has come to an end At last. A year which all of us would prefer to erase out of our memory for it has done, more damage than good to most.
Another two months have passed since I communicated with you via our bulletin. And I have to admit that along with the worsening of the Covid19 situation in Goa, the economy has also gone further downhill during this time. With no signs of demand increasing nor any sort of sizable relief coming from the Government, the times are getting harder for Trade & Industry.
I am pleased to communicate with you after a gap of over three months. Probably the longest three months in our lives where the world has changed, the way we look at life has changed, the way we do business has changed, the way we socialize has changed. And guess this change is here to stay. Who had in his/her wildest dreams ever imagined that these times will come in our life span? The deadly word “Corona Virus” has engulfed the thought process of the entire humanity whether economically or socially.
February is the smallest calendar month of the year and it is reflected in the Economic & Industrial scenario in the country with practically nothing to talk about.
As the sun rises in 2020, let me wish all of you a very happy and prosperous New Year. A year which we all look at with lots of hope for a revival of economy and an enhanced work environment along with a peaceful social and political environment.
Traditionally known as the month of festivities, December this year is starting with lots of hope in anticipation of an improved economy. Unfortunately all over the country, the focus is diverted from economic issues to social matters Be it CAA/NCR/JNU or violence related to the same.
